PRETOX to DETOX for 2020

In October, I introduced the idea of PRE-DETOX based on the research of Dr. Valtor Longo. Dr Longo is the director of the Longevity Institue at USC Keck Medical Center. Dr Loingo has an internationally bestselling book, titled The Longevity Diet: Discovering the Science Behind Stem Cell Activation and Regeneration to Slow Aging, fight disease and Optimize Weight. Dr. Longo shared with us that a Pre-Detox is the best way to start off the holiday season. If you didn’t get your Pre-Detox never fear. It’s not too late. In fact, in continuing to follow Dr. Longo’s work, we need to keep up the detox momentum as we move through the year.


Dr. Longo gives the following frequency list for determining how often you should detox:

  1. Once a month for the overweight or obese patient with at least two risk factors for diabetes, cancer, or cardiovascular or neurodegenerative disease

  2. Once every two months for average-weight patients with at least two risk factors for diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular or neurodegenerative disease.

  3. Once every three months for average weight patients with at least one risk factor for diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular or neurodegenerative disease.

  4. Once every four months for healthy patients with and ideal diet who are not physically active.

  5. Once every 6 months for healthy patients with an ideal diet who engage in regular activity.
